Frequently asked questions
Starting therapy often comes with a lot of questions — both practical and personal.
This page covers the basics around scheduling, fees, what to expect, and how I work. My hope is that it helps things feel a little clearer. And if you don’t see your question here, you’re always welcome to reach out.
Just a heads up: some updates to rates and scheduling are on the horizon for later in 2025. I’ll be sure to keep things clear and straightforward when the time comes.
Finances & insurance
-
My rate is $175 for the initial 50-minute intake session and $125 for each 50-minute individual therapy session after that.
-
I’m a private pay therapist, which means I don’t bill insurance companies directly. Clients pay for services out of pocket.
If you have out-of-network mental health benefits, you may be able to request reimbursement by submitting something called a superbill, which I can provide on the first of the following month.
I recommend contacting your insurance company to ask:
Do I have out-of-network mental health benefits?
What percentage is reimbursed?
How do I submit a superbill?
This will help you determine whether working together makes sense financially.
-
A superbill is an itemized receipt created by healthcare providers, especially when they’re out-of-network. I can provide monthly superbills that you can submit to your insurance provider for potential out-of-network reimbursement.
Please note: reimbursement is never guaranteed — it depends on your plan.
Most insurance companies have an online portal for this. If you're unsure, I recommend calling the number on your insurance card to ask about the process.
-
I accept both card and cash payments. A few things to note:
A card is required to be kept on file.
There is a processing fee for card payments.
If you'd like to pay with cash, just let me know ahead of your scheduled session so I don’t charge your card automatically.
-
Requiring a card on file makes payment smoother for both of us. especially in the case of cancellations, reschedules, or missed sessions. It’s a common practice among therapists and helps me focus more on our work together and less on logistics.
-
I ask for 48 business hours’ notice if you need to cancel or reschedule a session.
Cancellations or changes made within 24–48 business hours will be charged a $50 late cancellation fee
Changes made with less than 24 business hours’ notice will be charged the full session fee
Please note: weekend hours don’t count toward that window. For example, a session on Tuesday at 9 am would need to be cancelled by Friday at 9 am to avoid a fee.
This policy is in place to protect my time, energy, and the consistency of the work. If anything feels unclear, I’m always happy to talk it through.
Working together
-
Totally understandable. Starting therapy, whether for the first time or after a not-so-great experience, can feel vulnerable and uncertain. It takes courage to keep showing up for yourself.
These FAQs can give you a sense of how I work. If anything’s unclear or you have questions, feel free to reach out. I’ll get back to you within 48 business hours.
You don’t need to have the “right” words or a neat story to begin. I’ll help guide the process, and we’ll find a rhythm together. Many clients start with, “I don’t know where to start,” which is more than enough. That honesty is welcome here.
-
This is a free, 15-minute phone call where we get a feel for each other.
I’ll ask what you’re looking for, tell you a bit about how I work, and answer any questions you have. It’s not a space to get into all the details, but we’ll briefly touch on your main concerns to see if it feels like a good fit.
If it does, we’ll schedule your intake session. If not, I’m happy to refer you to someone who might be a better match.
-
We’ll start by reviewing a few key parts of your paperwork together. Then I’ll ask some structured questions about your background to help me get a fuller picture. From there, we’ll ease into more of a conversation about what’s bringing you in and what you’re hoping to get out of this process. By the end of the session, we’ll have a feel for what working together might look like and can talk through next steps, including scheduling.
-
New clients start with weekly or biweekly sessions. I’ll offer a recommendation based on your needs and goals, but ultimately you decide what’s realistic for you.
Weekly sessions help build trust and momentum early on, especially if you're navigating deeper emotional work. Biweekly can also work well, especially if you're balancing a full plate.
-
I work with adults (18+) navigating:
Shame and self-worth
Family of origin wounds
Relational patterns and attachment
Emotional intensity or overwhelm
Grief, identity, and life transitions
High-functioning coping that masks deeper pain
While disordered eating isn’t a primary focus in my practice, I have experience supporting clients with food and body concerns when they arise in the context of broader relational or emotional work.
I especially enjoy working with college students and adults who want depth, realness, and a collaborative space to do the work.
-
I currently see clients Monday through Thursday, between 9 am and 5 pm (last appointment at 4 pm).
-
I offer in-person sessions in Baton Rouge.
While I’m telehealth certified, I only offer virtual sessions to current clients under special circumstances (like illness, travel, or severe weather).
-
I use a secure electronic health record system (EHR) called SimplePractice.
You’ll receive a client portal link before our intake session — this is where you can manage appointments, access billing information and documents, and send secure messages.I recommend downloading the SimplePractice app for convenient access from your phone.
-
It really depends on what you’re needing. Some clients work with me for a few months. Others stay longer, especially if we’re exploring deeper patterns or long-standing pain.
There’s no one-size-fits-all. We’ll have ongoing conversations about what’s working, what’s shifting, and when you might feel ready to step away.
-
I don’t offer crisis counseling or emergency services. If you’re in immediate danger or crisis, please call 911 or go to your nearest emergency room.
That said, if you’ve experienced panic attacks, self-harm, or suicidal thoughts, let me know in your intake. We can create a plan for support.
And if something particularly difficult comes up — a breakup, job loss, family crisis — I’ll do my best to adjust our schedule or offer check-ins as needed.
-
You're welcome to reach out by secure message (through the SimplePractice app or website), phone, or email. Messaging is often the most convenient way for me to respond during the day. Phone and secure messaging are the most HIPAA-compliant options.
Please note: messages, calls, and emails are not monitored 24/7 and may take up to 48 business hours for a reply. They’re also not appropriate for emergencies. If you’re in crisis, please go to your nearest emergency room, or call or text the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline at 988.
-
You can cancel or reschedule through the SimplePractice client portal, either via the app or on your browser.
Please keep in mind my cancellation policy, which requires at least 48 business hours’ notice to avoid a fee.. -
